WOMAD 1999
Well here we are
another great festival comes to an end. The weather forecast was
not good when I checked it out on the Wednesday, cloudy for all
weekend? no chance, it was cloudy on my 200 mile drive and it
rained a little, but the festival spirit soon drove that away, and
we all enjoyed a weekend of glorious sunshine, the best world
music followed by good food and then near disaster when the bars
began to run out of glasses.
Hundreds of festival
goers relaxed by the Thames, taking a swim (not advisable) or
sheltering in the shade of the trees, me included, whilst I watched
the gang from Art Goes Pop prepare their material for the kids
workshop.
With the enormous
variations of music there was something for everyone from multicultural
groups, the mini culture of Jacquie Shane's artex decorated Bluebird
Mini car, or you could shop till your money ran out at the Global
Market stalls
The procession
was as great as ever, with it's fantastic designs and colours,
a highlight for everyone as it ambled it's way around the site,
viewed by thousands who stood and watched, and wished they too
were a part of it.
The Friends
of WOMAD stall was as busy as ever attracting new members
with great offers of festival ticket discounts and exclusive Friends
of WOMAD T shirts
